Will the GOP ever truly denounce racism?

The US Republican party excels at image making and have become very good at projecting a polished image through corporate media. Daily Kos has a very thorough breakdown of ingrained racism in the GOP leadership. Why do the average, good people who declare themselves republicans tolerate this?

President Lincoln was a Republican who won the Civil War and ended slavery in this country. Since then it is the Democratic party that has at least twice shown the courage to jettison racist elements from their party for the principle of equality, while the Republican party continues to embrace hatred and racism.
