Before I write, a drink!

Cory Doctorow at Boing Boing has an entry about the word blog being a drink of science fiction conventions prior to its current use. I used to attend Minicon, the Minnesota SF convention, on a regular basis. We did indeed drink a concoction known as blog. The recipe for the drink includes orange juice, lemonade and limeade along with ginger ale and grenadine. All of these are mixed with vodka to provide a sweet, fizzy drink that lacks any alcoholic taste. Perfect for those all-night convention activities. The sugar keeps you buzzed, although the vodka eventually saps your will to do much else besides sit and talk with your compatriots.

Thinking about it, blog the drink and blog the web activity serve the same purpose: social interaction and information dissemination. Determined little word, that blog is.
