New to drink: Coke with Lime, Pepsi Lime
Coke with Lime has been available in my market for a couple of months now and I just picked up the new Pepsi Lime. Since I gave the Coke with Lime a try when it came out, I figured I might as well comment on both of them.
First, the Coke with Lime (regular, not diet). I found it to be more lime than Coca-Cola, so it doesn't do a whole lot for me. I like Cherry Coke and Vanilla Coke and wish Coca-Cola would come out with a regular Coke with Lemon, but the Coke with Lime just seems too…lime. I know lime-flavored foodstuff are very popular in the southwest, but for me it seems too sweet and the lime signature overpowers the cola taste.
The new Pepsi Lime fares a bit better, I think. While it still has a noticeable lime taste, the underlying sweetness of Pepsi as a cola works with the lime flavoring. I generally don't drink Pepsi Cola, finding it too sweet and not very satisfying. Coca-Cola has my loyalties. But the Pepsi Lime works well as a drink, tasting less like an overly-sweet cola and more like a tempered lime cola. I dare say the lime flavor actually improves the Pepsi Cola. But as I've indicated, I have my biases.
While not nearly as tasty as old-style mixed colas from a soda fountain, these flavor variants add nice variety. I'm still waiting for my favorite chocolate Coke as a bottled product, but I'm not hopeful.
